MR. W. T. WILSON (Lancashire, Westhoughton)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Mr. Wade, of Richmond, Yorkshire, who is executing work for his Department at Tynemouth Barracks, at Clifford's Port, North Shields, at Frenchman's Battery, South Shields, and at Whitley Bay rifle range, is paying the joiners employed on this work 7d. and 7½d. per hour, the standard wage of joiners in the district being 9½d. per hour; and whether he will take steps to compel this contractor to pay his employees the standard wage.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) The case is being inquired into, but the facts have not yet been fully ascertained.
