HC Deb 17 July 1908 vol 192 cc1229-30
MR. PIKE PEASE

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what was the total local expenditure in Ireland for the year ending 1906–7, and the total municipal debt at the present time.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The gross total expenditure of local bodies in Ireland for the year 1906–7 amounted to £8,851,186, but this figure includes sums amounting to £2,183,367 paid by county councils to the subordinate local authorities financed by them. The net total expenditure may, therefore, be present serving in each county, and the date at which the proclamation of each such county for similar purposes was last previously withdrawn.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The following table gives the information asked for—

regarded as £6,667,819. The indebtedness of municipal authorities at the present time is not available, but on 31st March 1907 it was £8,806,476.
