MR. JAMES PAEKER (Halifax)

To ask the Postmaster-General what are the hours of attendance required from assistant clerks serving in the Engineer-in-Chief's Office and the Savings Bank Department of the Post Office, respectively.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) The hours of attendance which assistant clerks are at present required to give are, in the Engineer-in-Chief's Office, seven daily from Monday to Friday, and three and a half hours on Saturday; in the Savings Bank Department, seven hours daily from Monday to Friday and four hours on Saturday. But the scale of pay of assistant clerks wherever employed covers an attendance of forty-two hours a week.
