HC Deb 01 July 1908 vol 191 cc764-5
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that on page 37 of the Report on certain conditions of industrial life in Germany, under the heading of price of rye bread per lb., the prices given are those per 4 lb.; and whether, seeing that the effect of this misstatement is to represent bread as costing four times as much in Germany as in England, he will take steps to have the error corrected.

MR. CHURCHILL

My attention has been called to the unfortunate omission by a clerical error of the figure "4" in the heading of one of the tables on page 37 of the General Report, which gives the price per lb. of rye bread in certain towns in Germany. I have already caused a corrected page to be issued. I would, however, point out that the prices of bread in Germany are given correctly elsewhere in the Volume.

MR. LONSDALE

Will the right hon. Gentleman take care to send a copy of this Answer to the Liberal Publication Department?

MR. CHURCHILL

Does the hon. Gentleman intend to suggest that the publication of this was intended to deceive?

MR. LONSDALE

My Question is simply, will the right hon. Gentleman send a copy of the corrected Answer to the Liberal Publication Department?

MR. CHURCHILL

I see no reason for establishing any special connection between the Statistical Department of the Board of Trade and the Publication Department of any Party.
