§ SIR WILLIAM BULL (Hammersmith)To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the demand of the Walker Trustees of Edinburgh for a fee of £3 6s 8d from all knights bachelor of the United Kingdom; and, having regard to the fact that all fees for knighthood were abolished in 1902, will he state what steps he proposes to take, if any.
(Answered by Mr. Runciman.) I am aware that the Walker Trustees, as representing the Heritable Usher of Scotland, have applied for the fees in question to those who have received the honour of knighthood; but the Treasury have been advised that the right of the trustees to such fees is confined to the cases of knighthoods conferred upon Scotsmen or upon Englishmen in Scotland.
