HC Deb 20 February 1908 vol 184 cc1009-10
MR. VERNEY (Buckinghamshire, N.)

To ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture whether his attention has been called to the Acts recently passed in the Cape of Good Hope, the Transvaal, Natal, and Western Australia, for assisting agriculture by money advances at low rates of interest from the Colonial Governments, through the instrumentality of credit banks or mortgage bonds; and whether the Board of Agriculture will consider the advisability of establishing machinery of the same kind for existing agriculture and especially co-operative agricultural associations in this country.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) We published a brief summary of the provisions of the Acts to which my hon. friend refers in our Journal this month. I shall be glad to send him a copy, and to consider the suggestion he makes in the latter part of his Question.
