LORD BALCARRES (Lancashire, Chorley)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what were the numbers of emigrants in each of the years 1905, 1906, and 1907; and what was the last previous year in which the statistics of Irish emigration most nearly approximated to those for 1905.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The number of emigrants (natives of Ireland) in each of the years mentioned was as follows: 1905, 30,676; 1906, 35,344; and 1907, 39,082. The nearest approximation to the figures in 1905 was in the year 1898, in which 32,241 persons emigrated.
