HC Deb 17 February 1908 vol 184 c430
MR. THORNE (West Ham, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many infants of the 1,060 who met their death last year from overlaying were born of parents who live in one and two-room tenements in England and Scotland.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL,) Yorkshire, Cleveland

I presume the hon. Member refers to a statement made by myself on the introduction of the Children Bill. The number of deaths then mentioned in this connection was 1,600. These figures were obtained from the Registrar General's Reports, but the Secretary of State has no source of information from which to give the further particulars asked for in this Question.
