On behalf of the hon. Member for East Down, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland the amount of compensation claimed and allowed for in the cases of malicious injury, burnings, cattle maiming, etc., in the counties of Meath, Longford, and King's County during the past thirteen months.

In county Meath, eighteen claims, amounting to £1,046, were lodged. In eight of these, awards to the amount of £252 have been made, and the remaining ten claims amounting to £544 are pending. In county Longford, four claims, amounting to £46, were made, and all were rejected. In King's County, eighteen claims amounting to £2,710, were lodged. Two were rejected, and in the remaining sixteen cases compensation to the amount of £1,907 was given. The compensation granted in one case alone was £1,750.
