§ MR. J. D. WHITE (Dumbartonshire)To ask the Secretary of State for War what were the amounts of the purchases of. Foreign-made horseshoes and nails made by the War Office in the years 1903 and 1904, respectively.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary-Haldane.) In 1902–3 orders for 298,600 pairs of shoes and 46,670 nails, costing the sums of £6,790 and £12, respectively, were placed abroad. In 1903–4 orders for 292,000 pairs of shoes and 19,964,000 nails, costing the sums of £8,355 and £2,312 3s. 8d., respectively, were placed abroad. In 1904–5 no orders for shoes and nails were placed abroad.
