HC Deb 06 February 1908 vol 183 cc1072-3
SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if the Republic of Brazil is now giving, or is about to give, a preference of 20 per cent. on all imports of hardware and cutlery from the United States of America; and, in such case, if he will detail what steps His Majesty's Minister at Rio de Janeiro is taking to obtain a similar concession in respect of Sheffield hardware and cutlery, and if they are likely to prove successful.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir EDWARD GREY,) Northumberland, Berwick

I am not aware that 20 per cent. preference has been, or is about to be, accorded to the United States by Brazil on the imports named by the hon. Member for Sheffield. If the hon. and gallant Member will furnish me with any information I will inquire further.
