HC Deb 17 December 1908 vol 198 cc2061-2
MR. PARTINGTON (Derbyshire, High Peak)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that the old-age pensions subcommittee for the Peak area of Derbyshire is composed entirely of supporters of one political party; that the area covered is exceedingly large; and that no representatives of friendly societies or similar bodies have been included; and whether it is possible so to alter the constitution of this committee as to make it more representative of the inhabitants of the district.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I have received a letter containing allegations to the effect stated in the Question. The formation of sub-committees for the purposes of the Old-Age Pensions Act and the appointment of persons to serve upon them rests with the local pension committee, and I am not empowered to alter the constitution of any subcommittee formed by them.
