HC Deb 06 April 1908 vol 187 c891
MR. COURTHOPE (Sussex, Rye)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether the scale of pay in provincial post offices is fixed with reference to the gross volume of work at the office in question or the volume of work per member of the office staff; and whether he will so revise the scale that the volume of work per man is taken into account.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) The classification of provincial post offices for the purpose of scales of pay is based on the total volume of work at the office, modified where necessary by the cost of living. This arrangement is in accordance with the recomendation of the Select Committee on Post Office servants.
