HC Deb 07 May 1907 vol 174 c57
MAJOR ANSTRUTHER - GRAY (St. Andrews Burghs)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the rapid increase of automobile traffic, the consequent decrease of horses, and the certainty of shortage in the event of war, he will take steps to cope with the difficulty.

THE SECRETARY Of STATE For WAR (Mr. HALDANE,) Haddington

As I informed the hon. Member for the Oswestry division of Shropshire on the 28th February last, in answer to a similar inquiry, the whole question of the supply of horses in time of war is being very thoroughly considered.

MR. LEA (St. Pancras, E.)

Having regard to the exigencies of the service, will the right hon. Gentleman take into his most favourable consideration the desirability of providing Shire horses for mounted officers exceeding twenty stone in weight?

[No Answer was returned.]
