§ Fifty of the above gentlemen are Protestants and seventeen are Catholics. In addition to salary, each resident magistrate receives a fixed allowance of £100 a year to meet the expense of travelling on duty within a radius of fifteen miles from his headquarters, and one of £8 a year for postage, stationery, etc.
