HC Deb 02 May 1907 vol 173 cc1045-6
MR. DUNCAN SCHWANN (Cheshire, Hyde)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he will explain why the rule of the service that the relatives of postmasters cannot receive appointment at the same office has been departed from at the Nantwich post office; and, in view of the friction caused by the non-observance of the rule, he will direct that it be adhered to in this instance.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) There is no rule prohibiting the appointment at any particular office of a relative, male or female, of the postmaster of that office. It is usual to require male relatives to be transferred elsewhere on attaining the age of nineteen, but female relatives are not disturbed unless the relationship is found to be detrimental to the efficiency of the service.
