MR. T. F. RICHARDSI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the policemen on duty in the House of Commons have received no extra pay for extra duties last session; and whether he can see his way clear to rectify this, and at the same time to make provision for payment for extra time on duty at levees, etc.
§ MR. GLADSTONEPolice on duty at the Houses of Parliament receive, while so employed, a special allowance of a shilling a day in addition to the ordinary pay of their rank. In addition to this, they receive compensation for all extra duty in the shape of "time off" and also of special leave. This is, I think, sufficient to meet the requirements of the case.
