Member for Mid Armagh, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieu tenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the charges of unlawful assembly and intimidation, in connection with a cattle drive, which were brought against four men, at Carrick-on-Shannon petty sessions, on 31st May, were dismissed by a majority of the magistrates; and whether, in view of the character of the evidence, he intends- to order further proceedings in this case.
§ MR. BIRRELLThe proceedings in question consisted in an application to bind the defendants to be of good behaviour, and this application was dismissed by a majority of the magistrates. The question whether further proceedings are to be taken is at present under consideration.
