§ MR. LONSDALEI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland how many claims for compensation for malicious damage to property were before the last Birr quarter sessions; and what was the total amount awarded by the court.
§ MR. CHERRYThree claims for compensation were heard on the occasion mentioned. In one case the claim was dismissed. In another case the sum of £1,660 was awarded as compensation for the malicious burning of a stable and horses. Appeals have been lodged in this case by both the county council and district council. In the third case, the sum of £35 was awarded as compensation for the burning of the roof of a dwelling house.
