HC Deb 09 July 1907 vol 177 c1442
Mr. FERENS (Hull, E.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the number of serious accidents to children arising from their falling from railway trains, if he will cause railway companies to adopt measures to fasten more securely carriage doors.

MR. KEARLEY

The returns received with regard to the recent accidents referred to appear to show that none of them were attributable to defective fastenings of the doors. The Board of Trade have from time to time recommended the abolition of inside handles, except in the case of suburban trains, but the matter is not one in which they have compulsory powers.
