HC Deb 03 July 1907 vol 177 cc686-7
MR. FELL (Great Yarmouth)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if it is the intention to deepen any of the harbours at the mouth of the Thames or on the East Coast to enable them to take in H.M.S. "Dreadnought" if occasion should require.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. EDMUND ROBERTSON,) Dundee

As was stated in reply to a Question by the hon. Member on 24th June, the Sheerness bar is to be dredged. No other dredging in harbours on the East Coast is contemplated. Any harbours on the East Coast which have been habitually used by our battle fleets will admit the "Dreadnought."

MR. ARTHUR LEE (Hampshire, Fareham)

asked whether the bar at Sheer-ness was to be dredged sufficiently to allow the "Dreadnought" to pass over it at all states of the tide.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

asked for notice of that Question.

MR. FELL

asked whether the "Dreadnought" would be able to get into Chatham Dockyard.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

said he understood it would.
