HC Deb 03 July 1907 vol 177 cc694-5
*MR. SMEATON (Stirlingshire)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether there is any prospect of the first Census of Production being-ready before the end of 1908; and whether he can see his way to show, in juxtaposition with the analysis of Home production, a similar analysis, under corresponding heads, of the production of the United States, Germany, and any other European countries.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

It will not be possible for the results of the first Census of Production to be ready before the end of 1908. I will consider when the results of our own census are available how far it may be possible to make a comparison with the results of the United States Census, but I am advised that no comparison will be possible with Germany, or with any other European country, as no corresponding Census of Production has been instituted in those countries.

SIR GILBERT PARKER

Are the arrangements now proceeding?

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

Yes; a Committee is sitting and preparing the forms and schedules.
