HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 cc123-4
MR. DUFFY (Galway, S.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners received a petition from the tenants on the Doherty Estate Caherglissane, near Kinvara, Galway, pointing out that negotiations were going on for the sale to them of their holdings, and directing attention to the fact that two large farms on the estate were excluded from the terms of sale; and, having regard to the small uneconomic holdings on the property, whether the Commissioners will make inquiry into the matter, with a view of securing the untenanted land in the interest of the tenants.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners inform me that they have not received the petition referred to, and that no proceedings for the sale of the estate have been instituted before them.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) I am informed on inquiry at the Customs that there is at present no indication of a slackening in the demand for British coal on the Continent.
