HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 cc143-4
MR. FLAVIN (Kerry, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state if Mr. E. M. Stack has offered for sale to the Congested Districts Board his tenanted and untenanted lands at Mevoo and Ballyconry, North Kerry; and, if so, whether he can state how many acres of tenanted land and how many acres of untenanted land has Mr. Stack offered for sale.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) Mr. E. M. Stack has offered to sell to the Congested Districts Board 873 acres of land, of which 130 acres are untenanted. The Board are not, at present, in a position to make an offer for the purchase of this property.

MR. FLAVIN

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that representations and petitions have been brought to the notice of the Estates Commissioners and their inspector, Mr. West, in connection with 144 acres of grazing and mountain turbary land situate in Knocknacaheragh, on Lord Listowel's estate, electoral division of Kilmeary, North Kerry; whether he is aware that Mrs. Kelly and Joseph Meade, who respectively held eighty-five and seventy-eight acres of land each, have signed agreements to purchase the 144 acres of mountain and grazing lands between them in addition to their already large holdings of eighty-five and seventy-eight acres each; and whether, owing to the representations that have been made, the Estates Commissioners will refuse to sanction the sale of this 144 acres of grazing and untenanted land to Meade and Kelly, more especially as there are in the immediate vicinity a number of uneconomic holdings.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners inform me that they have received representations to the effect stated in the Question, and will give the matter due consideration before sanctioning the advances which have been applied for by the purchasing tenants.
