HC Deb 06 August 1907 vol 179 c1838
MR. HALPIN (Clare, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Local Government Board will make inquiry into the condition of the houses on the property of the late Thomas Peacocke, in Kilrush; whether the Board is aware that the local sanitary inspector, Dr. R. Counihan, Mr. Morissy, the engineer, and Sir Achison M'Cullagh have reported that the majority of them are not fit for human habitation; and will the Local Government Board take action in the matter before sickness breaks out in those houses and spreads through the town.

MR. CHERRY

The officers named in the Question have made reports as to the insanitary condition of some houses in the Kilrush Urban District, but the Local Government Board have no information as to the ownership of these houses. It rests with the local authority to take action in the matter under the powers conferred upon them for that purpose by the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and the Public Health Acts.
