HC Deb 05 August 1907 vol 179 cc1521-2
MR. HYDE (Wednesbury)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has any objection to the publication, monthly, of the total amount of Consols and other Government stocks purchased in the preceding month for the Government through application of the surplus and sinking fund; and whether, having regard to the value of such information to the investing public, he will direct such information to be published.

(Answered by Mr. Asquith.) I have carefully considered my hon. friend's suggestion, but I do not think that it would be to the public interest that I should pledge myself to the publication of a monthly return of the kind suggested, nor do I think it would be of much real value to the genuine investor.
