HC Deb 02 August 1907 vol 179 c1382
MR. MURPHY (Kerry, E.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether in schools where junior assistant mistresses were appointed they will be retained if the average attendance for the calendar year ending 31st December, 1907, be over fifty.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Commissioners of National Education inform me that the answer is in the affirmative, but they add that in schools in which the average attendance is fifty or upwards it is desirable that a female assistant teacher, as distinct from a junior assistant mistress, should be employed.
