HC Deb 29 April 1907 vol 173 cc529-30
MR. VINCENT KENNEDY (Cavan, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any complaints have been received from Japan protesting against the playing of the Mikado in London; have any steps been taken; and will the provinces be affected.

MR. RUNCIMAN

No representations have been made, but I am informed that the Lord Chamberlain has withdrawn the licence which was issued many years ago. The withdrawal affects all theatres, including the provinces.

MR. VINCENT KENNEDY

Does the prohibition extend to Ireland?

MR. RUNCIMAN

My information is that the licence has been withdrawn.
