HC Deb 25 April 1907 vol 173 c266
MR. J.M. ROBERTSON: (Northumberland, Tyneside)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether a number of officials have been dismissed, or invited to resign, from the service of the Egyptian Government for no reason of misconduct, but solely on account of their differing from the British Agency on points of administration; and whether he has sanctioned such proceedings.

SIR EDWARD GREY

I am not aware of any such circumstances.

MR. J. M. ROBERTSON

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman would make inquiries as to whether such cases had occurred.

SIR EDWARD GREY

The Question of the hon. Gentleman seems to imply a general censure on appointments and dismissals in the Egyptian service. I have no reason to suppose that such a Question is justified, and there is no reason for me to make inquiries.
