To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can state the total amounts received and expended by local authorities in England and Wales on police during the last financial year, including grants from Parliament or Local Taxation Accounts, and the rate per head of the population as enumerated at the 1901 Census.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) Taking the financial year 1905–6 for the Metropolitan Police, and for other police forces the nearest year for which their accounts are made up the Answer is—
