Simon, overseer, Southport, has been appointed postmaster of Birr; how many applications were received from Post Office officials serving in Ireland for this position; what is the length of Mr. Simon's service in the Post Office; what is the length of service of each of the unsuccessful applicants in Ireland; whether all, or nearly all, of the applicants in Ireland were possessed of proficiency certificates in postal and telegraph duties; and whether he will explain in what way 579 Mr. Simon's qualifications for this post-mastership were superior to those of any, or of all, of the applicants in Ireland.

Member's Question of 20th March I indicated my reasons for selecting Mr. Simon, and I have nothing to add to that Answer. It is not customary to publish particulars of the applications received.
