§ MR. W. R. REA (Scarborough)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, it his attention had been drawn to the convenience resulting from the increasing use of nickel in the coinage of foreign countries; and whether he will consider the desirability of following this example by the issue of nickel coins of the value of a penny and twopence, either in substitution for or for use concurrently with the present bronze ones.
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. ASQUITH, Fifeshire, E.)I have no evidence that the present coinage is regarded as other than satisfactory by the public generally, and in the absence of any general demand for an alteration I should not be prepared to take the responsibility of interfering with it.
