HC Deb 22 November 1906 vol 165 c970
MR. O'GRADY (Leeds, E.)

To ask the President of the Board of Education whether the case of a pupil teacher studying at the Thoresby High School, Leeds, having made application to enter the Ladies' Training College, Cheltenham, and whose application was refused, has been officially submitted to him by the Leeds education authority for inquiry; if so, has such inquiry been made, and with what result.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The answer to the first paragraph is in the affirmative. Careful inquiry will be made into the matter referred to in the Question. I may add that Miss Beale, the late head of the college, died only a few days ago. Her death is a great loss for all who are interested in the development of women's education, in which she played so large a part. † See Col. 223.
