HC Deb 15 November 1906 vol 165 c100
MR. ASHLEY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps, if any, are being taken to safeguard the lives and property of British subjects in Tangier and neighbourhood, in view of the continual unrest existing amongst the native population of that district.

SIR EDWARD GREY

I am aware of the unrest amongst the native population, but I do not consider that any special measures are required by His Majesty's Government. The question is occupying the attention of the French and Spanish Governments, to whom it appertains to take such measures at Tangier as circumstances may require.

MR. ASHLEY

Have the Powers made any progress with the formation of the new police force as authorised by the Algeciras Act?

* MR. SPEAKER

Notice should be given of that.
