HC Deb 13 November 1906 vol 164 c1287
MR. DUNCAN SCHWANN (Cheshire, Hyde)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what number of Chinese coolies were repatriated at the expense of the Home Government during September and October of this year.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. CHURCHILL, Manchester, N.W.)

Two hundred and sixty-seven Chinese coolies were repatriated at the expense of His Majesty's Government by the "Indravelli" which sailed at the end of August or beginning of September, and about 300 by the "Cranley" which sailed about the middle of September. There has been no opportunity of effecting further repatriation up to the present since the sailing of the "Cranley," but the necessary arrangements will be made in due course.
