HC Deb 12 November 1906 vol 164 c1022
MR. W. HOPE (Somersetshire, N.)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board if he is aware that, owing to the provisions of the Mid-wives Act, 1902, urgent necessity exists in many counties for training properly qualified midwives; and whether the Government will introduce a Bill to enable the county councils to contribute to such training, either out of the general county fund or out of funds set apart for purposes of higher education.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I have received representations on this subject, but I am not in a position to promise legislation with regard to it at the present time.
