HC Deb 07 November 1906 vol 164 cc563-4
MR. DELANY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that an agreement to purchase has been signed by a planter named Fawcett on the Landes estate, Garrymore, near Mountmellick, Queen's County; whether Fawcett occupies the holding from which "William Malone and John Geoghegan were evicted in 1889; and can he say if the Estates Commissioners are prepared to make an advance to Fawcett pending the settlement of the claims of Malone's representative and Geoghegan.

MR. BRYCE

The Estates Commissioners inform mo that Fawcett, the occupying tenant, has signed an agreement for the purchase of the holding referred to. The Commissioners understand that this holding was formerly occupied by William Malone, and they have received a claim for reinstatement from Peter Malone as his representative; but as the latter is reported to hold 70 acres of land, the Commissioners have decided that the case is not one which calls for their intervention. John Geoghegan, who was a herd employed by William Malone, was never a tenant of the farm. The Commissioners will consider Geoghegan's application for a holding, in the event of their acquiring untenanted land in the neighbourhood.
