HC Deb 07 November 1906 vol 164 cc527-8
MR. J. WARD (Stoke-on-Trent)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the trade union rates of wages and working conditions are not observed in the case of the navvies and labourers employed by the contractors Messrs. Bennett and Messrs. Parkington, upon the alterations in course of execution at the Royal Artillery barracks, Ipswich; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane) I have made careful inquiry into this matter. The information I have obtained; shows that the rate of wages current † See (4) Debates, clxiii., 686. locally is being paid to the labourers employed on War Department contracts by the firms mentioned.
