§ MR. LUPTONI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Depart- 126 ment whether he is aware that the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, which consists of numerous affiliated societies throughout the United Kingdom, has refused to take part in the proceedings of the Royal Commission unless the constitution of that body is remedied, and a direct medical representative of the anti-vivisectionists is appointed; and what course he proposes to take.
§ *MR. GLADSTONEYes, Sir. I regret the decision of the British Union and hope it will be reconsidered, but I have nothing to add to my previous answers on this subject, except to say that the Commission contains two medical men of distinction whoso names were suggested by anti-vivisection societies.
