HC Deb 30 May 1906 vol 158 cc403-4
MR. BARRIE (Londonderry, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether any alteration has been made in the form of tender for contracts for supply ‡See preceding Question and Answer of meat to the Army; whether such forms until recently stipulated for supply of home-fed meat; whether the new forms have been adopted in order to enable foreign-fed meat to be supplied to the Army.

*MR. HALDANE

The reply to the first two Questions is in the affirmative. The object of the alteration in the contract is not that stated by the hon. Member, but to get the best fresh meat at the lowest price for the soldier, as explained by me in an Answer to a Question put on the 14th instant by the hon. Member for the St. Patrick's Division of Dublin.‡
