To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the number of accidents in the London area during the month of April last caused by horse-drawn vehicles; in how many instances have personal injuries resulted; and in how many cases have such injuries proved fatal.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) The number of accidents reported by the police to have been caused within the Metropolitan Police district during the month of April by horse-drawn vehicles is: by horse drawn omnibuses, 265, forty-seven of which resulted in personal injury and one in death. By other horse-drawn vehicles, 2,233, 643 of which resulted in personal injury and ten in death.
