HC Deb 14 May 1906 vol 157 cc149-50
MR. LONSDALH (Armagh, Mid.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant whether he is aware that a strong feeling exists among the mercantile and legal community in favour of a reform of the system of debt recovery in Ireland; and whether he will appoint a Commission to inquire into the subject and suggest measures for remedying defects of which the public complain.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) I have not been made aware that a strong feeling exists among the mercantile and legal community in favour of a reform of the system of debt recovery in Ireland, and, in the absence of any evidence to that effect, the Government are not prepared to consider the question of appointing a Commission to inquire into the subject.
