HC Deb 09 May 1906 vol 156 c1294
MR. RIDSDALE (Brighton)

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the reference to the new Committee upon the Graduation of the Income-tax will include an inquiry into the present methods of assessment and collection.

(Answered by Mr. Asquith.) The reference to the Committee, which has been approved by the House, is to consider the practicability of graduating the amount of the tax and of differentiating between permanent and precarious incomes. It will be for the Committee to determine how far an inquiry into the present methods of assessment and collection is necessary or relevant to the subject of the investigation.
