HC Deb 09 May 1906 vol 156 c1299
* CAPTAIN FABER (Hampshire, Andover)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state how much of the railway from Smyrna to Akabah is now completed; if there are any breaks in the line, what number; and, if so, of what length each break is.

THE SECRETARY TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. RUNCIMAN, Dewsbury, for Sir EDWARD GREY)

There is direct railway communication between Smyrna and Eregli. Between Eregli and Hama, a distance of approximately 220 miles, there is as yet no railway communication. There is a line open from Hama to Mudevvere, and from this point to Akabah the railway is not completed, and the distance is about 100 miles.

* CAPTAIN FABER

Are the uncompleted portions nearly finished?

SIR EDWARD GREY

I must ask for notice of that.
