HC Deb 07 May 1906 vol 156 c979
MR. H. J. TENNANT (Berwickshire)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has now received replies from the magistrates and police which will enable him to state what steps he is prepared to take, by legislation or otherwise, to secure the provision of separate courts for children, their separate detention in places other than the police court before trial, and the appointment of probation officers.

MR. GLADSTONE

I have received a large number of replies to my circular, most of them of a satisfactory character; and I hope shortly to be able to state what further stops I propose to take, particularly in the important matter of probation officers.
