HC Deb 07 May 1906 vol 156 c962
SIR GILBERT PARKER (Gravesend)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies has the Government received any information from the Orange River Colony which would indicate that a majority of the population would prefer a form of government which would not involve the operation of the full party system.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Secretary of State will be in a better position to judge as to the views of the majority of the population upon this matter after the South African Committee have visited the Colony and have reported. I see no public advantage to be gained by premature and fragmentary announcements of the constitutional methods to be adopted in either Colony.
