HC Deb 03 May 1906 vol 156 c722
MR. H. H. MARKS (Kent, Thanet)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether measures are being taken by the Education Department to give effect to the recommendations of the Departmental Committee of the Board of Agriculture on the Fruit Industry, that horticulture should be taught in elementary schools in country districts, and that such schools should have gardens attached where possible; that the attention of the local education authorities should be called to this, and also to the desirability of encouraging the study of practical horticulture in training colleges.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Mr. BIRRELL,) Bristol, N.

I must refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on this subject on March 28th. † I have nothing to add to that reply.
