HC Deb 02 May 1906 vol 156 cc566-7
MR. MACVEAGH (Down, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is now in a position to state under what circumstances Constable Anderson, formerly of Kiltimagh, county Mayo, was recently removed from county Tyrone to county Meath.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. BRYCE,) Aberdeen, S.

It would be contrary to practice and undesirable, for disciplinary and other reasons, to disclose the circumstances in which a constable is transferred from one district to another.

MR. MACVEAGH

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether, as a matter of fact, charges similar to those which caused this constable's removal from another place were the cause of this removal?

MR. BRYCE

I have no knowledge of that.

MR. MACVEAGH

Is it not the fact that on the occasion of his last removal efforts were made to prove that he was persecuted on account of religion? Cannot the right hon. Gentleman tell us something about the latest performances of this Gay Lothario?

MR. BRYCE

I think the time has come when what happened years ago might well be dropped.
