§ MR. WILKIE (Dundee)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether from ten to fifteen shillings is paid by way of reward to any person arresting a deserter; and, if so, will he say why only half of the amount is paid to police constables.
§ MR. HALDANEThese rewards may be paid to any person for apprehending a deserter in plain clothes. In fixing the amount of the reward the officer commanding is guided by the recommendation of the committing magistrate. The regulations do not differentiate between police constables and others.
