HC Deb 28 March 1906 vol 154 c1265
MR. NUSSEY (Pontefract)

On behalf of the hon. Member for the Morley Division of Yorks, I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the Bradford City Council, acting in the capacity of education authority, has repeatedly refused to pay the advance in salary due to the officials in the education office according to the scale under which they were engaged by the late School Board; and whether he proposes to take any action under the Defaulting Authorities Act or otherwise.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Mr. BIRRELL,) Bristol, N.

I am aware of the facts stated in the Question. The total increase amounts to about £250 yearly. As this is a question between the Bradford Education Authority and its staff, the matter may safely be left to the decision of the City Council and its legal advisers. I do not for one moment believe the City Council will fail to fulfil any agreement entered into by themselves or to meet any obligation inherited by them from their predecessors.
